Disclaimer: I dun own them. Hell I don't technically own this plot! This story is based on The Chinese Box, one of those low budget movies that I just happened to pass by. I didn't like it as all, so I rewrote it. And I don't own GW or anything.. 'cept maybe the plot changes. Oh well, this is my pride and joy, so have fun reading it!

Pairings: 1+3, so far.
Warnings: OOC, angst! There's, like, ONE lemon scene, a lot of cuss words ('cause Duo's a potty mouth), yaoi. Oh, there's a lotta bad things that happen to some of the characters, so you might get mad. The guys are around 25 or 26-ish years old. Except Duo. He's around 22, 'cause this is an AU story. Shonen Ai so far. Deathficcy Mebbe That's about it, I guess. ^___^

The L2 Box
Part 9

"Where are you taking me, Heero?" Duo asked curiously. I was leading him towards downtown where a large fountain marked the center of the section. I had planned this out, all for Duo after I promised to make his life happy. But I was finding it so difficult to carry out. In a few moments, I was going to grant the wish of a lifetime, but I was also going to lose a friendship I treasured.

"Duo," I took a deep breath, not believe I was going to let this boy slip through my fingers. "I want you to meet someone-"

"Solo?!" Duo ran up to the man I was introducing. He threw his arms around the bewildered person. My heart involuntarily wrenched as I watched them. But I was determined.

Give Duo his happiness. I forced myself.

Duo stumbled back in shock when Solo abruptly shoved him away, "Heero, who the hell is this?" he asked me, pointed at the stunned, braided boy. I was surprised as well with the question. Duo's violet eyes darkened to a hue of blue slightly in disbelief.

"What the hell are you talking about, Solo?" Duo interrupted, trying to get the other boys attention, "It's me, Duo! Remember?" Solo stared at Duo, but his face remained blank. "Don't you remember?? Duo Maxwell! From middle school!"

"I. don't. think so." Duo's euphoric expression shattered.

"What do you mean? .You forgot?" Seeing Solo's confused expression, he shook his head. "How could you forget? All the things we did! All we went through!"

"I'm sorry.. I. I don't remember" Duo let out an inarticulate noise.

"You said you'd come back for me." All the while, I was watching this scene in shock. Solo was an acquaintance; One of Quatre's fellow business friends, a friend of on L3. It took me about a month to locate him and pulled some strings to arrange this meeting. But I had never imagined this would have happened. I had been expecting a lovers reunion, and for Solo to sweep the boy away to live happily ever after. Or at least old friends to meet up again and talk about the past, renewing their bond. But, everything was going wrong! I thought, maybe, he hadn't returned because he couldn't locate Duo or something. But, he didn't even remember Duo! It was all wrong! Duo was standing there, looking like a puppy that'd just been kicked by his trusted master. His blue-violet eyes flashed with anger, but shimmering tears that threatened to slip down his scarred cheek.

"You said you loved me!" Duo was trying to make Solo remember. But he only stared at Duo, shaking his head. "God damn it! We weren't THAT young! You couldn't have forgotten!" He grabbed his old lover and shook him by the shoulders, hard, trying to force the memory to come back. "Please, don't say you have."

"I've been married to a loving wife, and I have two wonderful children. If I had loved you, I would have remembered." Duo jerked his hands back like they had been scalded, staring at Solo in wide, disbelieving eyes. Those were harsh words. "But, I don't. remember you" The rest of what Solo was going to say was cut off when Duo's fist connected with his jaw.

"You bastard! How could you do this to me!" The braided boy exclaimed. "You said you loved me, and I've been waiting all this time! All this time! And you don't even fucking remember me!"

"I'm sorry." Duo covered his ears, shaking his head violently.

"I don't want to hear anymore! Go away! Get lost!" He screamed. "Get the hell away from me!"

"Look, I'm sorry.I'm really, truly sorr-"

"I said GO AWAY!!!" His cerulean eyes were shut tight, but the tears still managed to escape. Solo bit his lip, turning away from the devastated boy before him, looking at me to see what to do. I nodded to Solo farewell and he understood, walking away.

When the other man was gone, I turned back to Duo, who was shaking his head in denial and crying at the betrayal.

"I'm alone. I'm so alone." I heard the braided figure murmur. I'm not used to consoling, but in a rush of emotion, I instinctively wrapped my arms around the sobbing boys' waist, holding him tightly. Automatically, Duo returned the embrace, placing his arms around my shoulder and cried into the nape of my neck.

"Shhh. You are not alone." I whispered reassuringly to the boy in my arms, glaring at the passersby's giving us looks. I Duo's back comfortingly, "I'll be here with you so you won't be alone." I wasn't even thinking about what I was saying. I was more worried about the distraught boy in my arms.

"I want to die, Heero. It hurts so bad." The words froze my insides. "My heart, it feels so heavy, like it wants to pull me six feet under into a grave." It was broken into sobs and I could feel the tears falling onto my neck. "God, I want to die." I clutched Duo, hoping that he really didn't mean it.
