Little Boy Blue
Duo logged on nervously. Would Little Boy Blue really want to talk to him? But he had suggested it... Duo had to remind himself that the other boy had no idea what he was like, how old, what he looked like. He probably thought he was some pervert. But he had suggested it! Minutes seemed like hours, then a small window popped up:
LBBlue wants to send you a private message. Will you accept?
Fuck yes, thought Duo, and clicked yes. The new window popped up. It felt much more intimate.
LBBlue: Hello again.
Hands shaking, Duo answered.
DMax17: Hello. Thank you for asking me to chat.
LBBlue: Thanks for accepting. Wow, this sounds formal, doesn't it?
DMax17: *laughing* I was just thinking that. This is kind of weird.
LBBlue: *nodding* but everything in my life is kind of weird.
DMax17: I can imagine. No, I can't imagine, I guess, but I can sympathize. For what that's worth.
LBBlue: it's worth more than you think. Thanks.
DMax17: That's nice to know. So what does it take to make you smile?
LBBlue: I wish I knew. I'll let you know if I think of something, ok?
DMax17: it's a deal. Um... you probably don't want to talk about yourself, am I right?
LBBlue: You're right. I'm glad you understand. Why don't you tell me about yourself instead?
DMax17: and bore you to death? You must be an insomniac!
LBBlue: see, now that almost made me smile. I really do want to know about you. You probably already know more than enough about me.
DMax17: well, just let me know if I either make you fall asleep, or make you laugh. I'll adjust. Well, like I said, my real name is Duo. My parents would kill me for telling anyone online that, but I think that would be a small thing compared to other things I've done online. *blushing*
LBBlue: Your parents? How old are you? If you don't mind my asking.
DMax17: I'm 17. You probably don't want to talk to me any more now. I'm not legal.
LBBlue: It's ok. I'm 17 too.
DMax17: *shocked* But... isn't that...
LBBlue: illegal? Yes. Now you know my secret. My manager would kill me for telling anyone also. But I feel like I can tell you anything. It's weird.
DMax17: you can tell me anything. It's not like I can do anything about it. It's illegal for me too.
LBBlue: well, the irony of all this is making me smile. You did it.
DMax17: but an ironic smile doesn't count! It has to be a real one. I'll keep trying.
They went on, Duo telling the other boy all about his life, and whatever else he could think of. Heero asked questions, Duo related anecdotes, and they lost track of time. Heero was enjoying himself so much, just talking to another boy his age, that he realized he actually was smiling. Laughing, even. He quickly hooked up his digital camera.
Duo, for his part, had almost forgotten who he was talking to: the sexy siren of his dreams. They didn't talk about sex at all, and Duo realized it was enough. If he could count the boy as a friend, that would be ok.
LBBlue: check your mail, Duo.
DMax17: ok, BRB.
Curiously, Duo clicked on the new message from Little Boy Blue. It had an enclosure. He opened it, and almost gasped as a picture of the boy appeared on the screen. He looked directly at the camera, and he was smiling. He looked happy, and to Duo he looked a thousand times more heartbreakingly beautiful like that. He was speechless. Finally he noticed the chat icon was flashing. He clicked on it.
LBBlue: well? Is it that bad?
DMax17: no, I'm just amazed. It's, I mean, you ARE beautiful when you smile.
LBBlue: *blushing* Thanks, but it's all your fault. I thought you might like to see the results of your efforts.
DMax17: I don't know what to say. Thank you.
LBBlue: it's not a big deal. I'm having a great time talking to you.
DMax17: listening to me, you mean...
LBBlue: *laughing* yes, you do get going, don't you?
DMax17: *hangs head*
LBBlue: no, no, it's great! I asked you lots of questions! I can't believe we've been talking for... shit, 4 hours?
DMax17: no way! Damn, you're right! It's 2am!
LBBlue: you must be on the west coast too.
DMax17: yes, I'm in San Diego.
LBBlue: I'm in LA. But you probably knew that.
DMax17: no, I didn't.
LBBlue: well where else could I do what I do? Hey, we're practically neighbors.
DMax17: yes, we are. I'm sorry to have kept you up so late.
LBBlue: That's ok, I don't have anything to do tomorrow anyway.
DMax17: neither do I.
LBBlue: we lead such exciting lives, don't we?
DMax17: well, you do. *smiles*
LBBlue: not really.
DMax17: sorry, I didn't mean to mention it.
LBBlue: that's ok. Sometimes I like to forget what I do.
DMax17: if you ever want someone to talk to, I'm here.
LBBlue: I appreciate that, Duo. I suppose we should go. I don't want to!
DMax17: neither do I. I'm online a lot. I'll log on when I can. I'm so glad you emailed me.
LBBlue: so am I.
DMax17: sleep well, Little Boy Blue. Sorry, but I don't know what else to call you.
LBBlue: I'm going to break another rule. My real name is Heero.
DMax17: I'm honored you trust me, Heero. You won't regret it. Goodnight.
LBBlue: Good night, Duo.
Duo logged off regretfully. He saved the chat as a text file. Then he stared for a long time at the picture of the smiling boy. Who now had a name. Heero. He sighed, knowing he was acting like a lovesick teenager. Which he was. He was too tired to even be turned on; he fell into his bed and dreamed of Heero, in a nonsexual manner this time. A name, a personality... he still couldn't believe it was true. He had talked to him.
